Dual Enrollment for Students in High School

High achieving high school students (who meet career and college-ready eligibility) can be approved, while still in high school, to begin earning college credit. This can assist students with College transition, early, with great support. It also allows students to earn up to a full year of equivalent college credit while still in high school, giving them a distinct advantage when beginning a full-time college curriculum.

With high school approval, students can be released for part of the day to attend and earn college credits during their junior and senior years of high school.

Students interested in Dual Enrollment should schedule a planning conference with a high school counselor. The student must attend this conference along with a parent/guardian to discuss the student’s options, outline expectations and complete the Dual Enrollment Application.

High School Students are required to show eligibility for College English (ENGL 101  ) and college-level math. There are many different ways to show college-level eligibility. Click here for detailed information on course placement and eligibility.

  • Students who do not meet the criteria on the course placement and eligibility chart complete a placement assessment to determine where to begin. Tutoring and other assistance is available from the Academic Center to practice skills. If students wish to place higher, they will have the ability to work through a learning path for an opportunity to reach their preferred course level. CCPS students must have a completed high school Dual Enrollment Application at the time of registration and can self-register for courses and preferred course sections. Students approved for Dual Enrollment are eligible to take two courses, from the eligible course list, in both the fall and the spring semesters, at no cost to the students.  The cost for tuition and books is covered by CCPS.

Additional classes, above the two courses, can be taken but the cost will be the responsibility of the student and parent/guardian.

Contact a high school counselor for specific details regarding individual high school dual enrollment requirements. Please note: Dually enrolled students and students attending on an 8th semester waiver are not eligible to receive Federal Financial Aid.
