CRIM 106 - Law Enforcement and the Community

Law Enforcement and the Community is a study of the relationship between police and the community with recommendations for ways of working together to reduce crime. Emphasis is placed on police in a culturally diverse society. Three hours lecture. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): eligibility for ENGL 101.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Analyze the foundations, processes and norms of policing within American democracy. (GE2, GE3, PG1, PG2, PG 3)
Describe the tactical, strategic and philosophical transitions toward community policing. (GE 1, GE2, GE6, PG1, PG2, PG4)
Demonstrate development of police management, organization, goals and performance. (GE2, GE5, GE6, PG1, PG2, PG4)
Analyze police and citizen interactions regarding the use of force, and police accountability and ethics. (GE2, GE6, GE7, PG1, PG 2)
Discuss cultural diversity and its impact on policing. (GE1, GE2, GE5, PG1, PG2, PG3, PG4)
