MATH 130 - Precalculus


Number of Credits: 5
Analyze, graph, and solve polynomial and non-polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions and their inverses through analytic and numerical approaches. An intensive-comprehensive course that weaves together previous studies of Algebra, Geometry, and functions, and is intended for mathematics and science majors. A prerequisite for Calculus of a Single Variable 1, MATH-135. Credit by exam available; CLEP (Precalculus) accepted. 

  (Fall, Spring & Summer Only) Five hours lecture each week. Five Credits. Five billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): eligibility for ENGL 101  ; completion of MAT 099   (preferred) or MATH 118  with a minimum grade of C or better, or placement by other measure.

Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
 

  • Examine rules, properties, laws, and structures to solve, simplify, verify and/or prove various types of functions and inequalities (GE2, GE3)
  • Determine domain and range of various types of functions and inequalities (GE2)
  • Write functions in different forms (GE2)
  • Evaluate transformations of various types of functions (GE2, GE3)
  • Use various elements to sketch the graph of functions (GE2, GE3)
  • Solve systems of equations using multiple methods (GE2, GE3)
  • Identify, convert, and apply angles in degrees and radians (GE2)
  • Evaluate trigonometric functions using the Unit Circle (GE2)
  • Set up and solve application problems using multiple types of functions (GE1, GE2, GE3)
