CRIM 220 - Crime Scene Investigations


Number of Credits: 3
Explore recreated crime scenes to apply basic investigatory techniques. Collaborate to evaluate simulated crime scenes. Apply scientific philosophy, including concepts and procedures for processing a crime scene. Apply problem-solving skills for crime scene management, recognition, evaluation, documentation, and control of physical evidence. Three hours lecture each week.  Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): CRIM 101   Introduction to Criminal Justice
Course Topics:
Crime scene processing, including suicides, homicides, and property crimes.   
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply crime scene procedures that are required of a first responder.
  2. Demonstrate the proper interviewing and interrogation techniques.   
  3. Implement the proper techniques for handling evidence at a crime scene.
  4. Evaluate the importance of original notes and investigative reports.
  5. Document crime scene evidence.  
  6. Identify various resources available to assist investigators in a criminal investigation.
  7. Analyze appropriate methodologies for suspect identification.
  8. Apply ”Modus Operandi” to a criminal investigation.
