ECE 115 - School-Age Care (SAC)


Number of Credits: 3
School-Age Care (SAC) is an early childhood education career course which examines the child between ages five and twelve. Appropriate methods, materials, and experiences for school-age care will be covered. This course along with ECE 101 , meets State requirements for ninety clock hours of training in a school-age program. Credit by examination available. (Fall) Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): eligibility for ENGL 101 .

School-Age Childcare Business Plan
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1.  Recognize and describe the characteristics of high-quality school-age care and apply them to a licensed school-age childcare program. PLG: 2,3,5

2.  Discuss the benefits and identify strategies to partner with families and the community in a school-age childcare program. PLG: 2,5

3.  Plan and evaluate lessons and experiences that meet the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of groups and the individual child in a quality school-age program. PLG: 1,4,6

4.  Recognize the implications of special needs, disabilities, neurodiversity and trauma-informed practices in a school-age childcare program. PLG: 1,3,6

5.  Illustrate the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity that adapts for individual differences in a school-age childcare setting. PLG: 5,6

6.  Identify societal influences upon development during middle childhood, including the use of technology. PLG: 1,3,4,6

7.  Create a simplified business plan proposal for a school-age program that includes program goals, meeting the needs of families, program overview, staffing, materials and equipment, floor plans, and summary. PLG: 1,2,3,4,5,6
