SPAN 100 - Elementary Spanish 1 Number of Credits: 3 ¡Vamos! Embark on an exciting journey mastering beginner Spanish. Express yourself confidently in everyday situations as you decode new words and explore Spanish-speaking cultures. Explore advantages of bilingualism as you connect the language to your academic and professional journey. Advanced Placement Exam (Spanish with a score of 3) and CLEP (Spanish Level 1 with a score of 50) accepted for SPAN-100 and SPAN-102. (Fall, Spring) Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Pre-requisite(s): eligibility for ENGL 101 . Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Use novice level structures and vocabulary to communicate about themselves and their immediate surroundings (GE1)
- Communicate orally with accuracy using simple, high-frequency words and phrases in Spanish (GE1)
- Create grammatically correct questions and sentence-level responses in written and oral forms (GE1)
- Derive meaning from short, predictable written texts and aural passages that convey basic information about familiar topics or contexts (GE1)
- Recognize and apply patterns to predict meaning of cognates and unfamiliar words (GE3)
- Identify rules of register formality according to situation and audience (GE1)
- Identify locations where Spanish is spoken (GE8)
- Explain benefits of speaking Spanish in student’s chosen field (GE8)
- Convey knowledge of other disciplines through the study of the Spanish language and the cultures and diverse experiences of its speakers (GE5, GE6)
- Locate, evaluate, use and cite research sources when completing written assignments (GE4, GE5)
