CAR 100 - Career Development as a Life Process

Career Development as a Life Process is an introduction to the career development process concentrating on the personal factors involved in making a mature career decision. Students are presented with various ways to survey themselves and the world of work and are encouraged to narrow down the choice to one career field. Three hours lecture. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): exemption/completion of ENG 001  and a willingness to examine your interests, abilities, and skills in order to make a tentative career decision.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Describe your interests, values, and skills.
  2. Identify what it might take for you to experience personal satisfaction and fulfillment in your career.
  3. Assess where you would most like to use your natural talents and develop your skills.
  4. Become familiar with the primary sources of occupational information and know how to use them effectively in your career decision making.
  5. Develop both short- and long-term personal goals as a reference for guiding your career and learning plans.
  6. Develop action plans for achieving your career objectives.
