CIA 125 - Word


Number of Credits: 4
Develop and manipulate text-based documents using Microsoft Word software. Apply skills to format cover letters, resumes, newsletters, forms, and research papers, including proper formatting for citations, footnotes, bibliographies, indexes, and tables of figures. Manage and share documents; use proofing and markup tools; create custom elements; mail merges, and web pages; insert and format objects; make documents accessible. This course prepares students to complete the MOS Microsoft Word Associate and Expert 2019 Certification exams. The MOS Word Associate exam is completed as the final exam. Certification is not guaranteed. An additional $80 fee is required. Students can complete the Expert exam for an additional fee. Basic technology skills are recommended. (Formerly offered as OFFC-205; credit will not be awarded for both). (Fall Term Only) Four hours lecture each week. Four Credits. Four billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): exemption/completion of ENG 001 .
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Manage document options and settings using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include navigate, format, and save and share documents, inspect documents for issues, manage documents and templates, and configure language options. (PG1, PG2) 
2. Insert and format text, paragraphs, and sections using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include insert and format text and paragraphs, create and configure documents sections, find and replace content, create and manage styles. (PG1, PG2)       
3. Create tables and lists using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include create and modify tables and create and modify lists in documents. (PG1, PG2)
4. Create and manage references using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include create and manage reference elements and reference tables. (PG1, PG2)
5. Insert and format graphic elements using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include insert and format illustrations, text boxes, add text to and modify graphic elements. (PG1, PG2)
6. Manage document collaboration using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include add and manage comments and manage change tracking. (PG3)  
7. Create custom elements and apply advanced features using Microsoft Word software. Specific skills include create and modify building blocks, macros, forms, fields and controls, create and manage indexes and table of figures, and perform mail merges. (PG1, PG2)     
8. Utilize cloud computing concepts and manipulate cloud applications to create and share information. (PG1, PG2, PG4)
