ART 130 - Painting 1 Number of Credits: 3 Painting 1 provides an investigation of various approaches to painting. Stress will be placed upon basic methods and techniques of acrylic painting and color mixing. Class work and outside assignments of still-life, landscape and the figure will be critically examined and discussed from the standpoint of formal organization. (Fall & Spring Only) Three and a half hours lecture each week. Two hours laboratory each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.
Pre-requisite(s): exemption/completion of ENG 001 . Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of and facility with painting equipment: brushes, knives, stretchers, canvas and alternate painting supports. (GE 5 PG 1)
- Demonstrate understanding of and facility with acrylic or other paint media as assigned including edge control and value modulation. (GE 5 PG 1)
- Create original representational works from observation. (GE 5 PG 1)
- Demonstrate understanding of color theory and effective color mixing relative to hue value, intensity. (GE 2 PG 2)
- Demonstrate ability to interpret and adhere to assignment goals and specs by originating and maintaining a cleanly crafted and functioning portfolio. (GE 7 PG 5)
- Demonstrate appreciation for and understanding of historical and cultural influences in art relative to painting media. (GE 6 PG 4)
