HLTH 201 - Women’s Health


Number of Credits: 3
Explore the physical, mental, emotional, financial, and behavioral aspects of women’s health from past to present. Examine modern-day health issues for women of various cultures, races, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and sexual orientations. Course content includes a multidisciplinary approach to women’s health issues and provides a framework for informed decision-making.   GENERAL EDUCATION and DIVERSITY (Fall, Spring & Summer Only) Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
 

  1. Describe key historical events that shaped the women’s health movement, women’s rights, and women in society. (PG3, GE1)  
  2. Examine the physiological aspects of health in women from birth to senior years. (PG2, PG3, GE7, GE8)
  3. Interpret wellness assessment data and course concepts to help guide informed decision-making. (PG1, PG2, GE1, GE2, GE7)   
  4. Explore risk factors for various diseases that impact women and explore signs, symptoms, and treatment options for these diseases. (PG1, PG2, GE3, GE7, GE8)      
  5. Examine the importance of nutrition, physical activity, reproductive health, and sexual health across the female lifespan. (PG1, PG2, GE2, GE7,GE8) 
  6. Explore mental health and stress management, and how they impact behavior and overall wellness in women. (PG1, PG2, PG3, GE7, GE8) 
  7. Describe the impact culture, family, personal experience, and societal influences have on women’s health behaviors. (PG2, PG4, GE7, GE8)
  8. Develop research-based assignments focused on wellness through a women’s health lens. (PG3, PG4, GE1, GE4, GE5, GE7, GE8)
