HONOR 202 - Service Learning: Values and Action Capstone


Number of Credits: 1
Integrate leadership skills with concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an effort to assess community needs; discuss, analyze, and act on those needs in a real-world setting. Participate in a service learning project. This course is only for students participating in the Pappalardo Honors Program. Additional $250 fee required. (All Terms) One hour lecture each week. One Credit. One billable hour.

Course Topics:
The goal of this course is to integrate leadership development skills, with concepts of group dynamics in an effort to assess community needs, and discuss, analyze, and act on those needs in a team setting.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
This course supports students in using skills learned in college to create and affect change in the community. Upon completion of HONORS 202, students will be able to:

  1. Apply service-learning theory to the local community.
  2. Describe critical issues facing the Carroll County community and the State of Maryland.
  3. Articulate community needs and identify strategies to address needs.
  4. Develop reflection skills needed to critically analyze their experiences.
  5. Develop relevant skills in becoming a more effective and engaged community member.
