HIST 110 - World Culture-1200 to Present


Number of Credits: 3
Explore the historical development and interrelationships of the major population centers of the world from the 13th century to the present, including Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Discuss the political, religious, economic, social, and cultural characteristics of various regions of the world, including significant people, ideas, accomplishments, and/or types of expression in the context of each region. GENERAL EDUCATION (Fall & Spring) Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): Eligibility for ENGL 101  
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Summarize and explain the impact of world perspective on the development of human civilization. (G-1) (G-3) (G-6)
2. Evaluate the basic political, social-economic, or military institutions of the major population centers or civilizations (chosen for study) from the 13th Century to the present. (G-3) (G-6)
3. Identify important cross-cultural encounters and exchanges among the civilizations under examination and analyze how such interactions influenced these civilizations.  (G-3) (G-6)
4. Analyze the important contributions in art, religion, philosophy, law, and literature to the historical development of the civilizations under examination. (G-4) (G-6) (G-7)
5. Interpret written, oral, or visual historical data and evidence. (G-4) (G-5)
6. Develop written compositions on historical topics that identify primary cultural forces that shape the lifestyle of the people explored. (G-1) (G-3)
7. Develop an expanded view of world perspective and culture. (G-8)
