STDEV 100 - Resilience: Building Mental and Emotional Strength

Explore the concept of resilience and learn how to cultivate it.  Identify, use, and test practical strategies, techniques and skills for developing  the ability to cope with and adapt to stress, adversity, and trauma. Emerge stronger from these experiences.

(Fall & Spring Only) One hour lecture each week. One Credit. One billable hour.

Pre-requisite(s): eligibility for ENG 001

Self Awareness

Emotional regulation

Understanding and working with Triggers

Using curiosity as a tool for self leadership

Interrogating limiting beliefs

Skills and tools to assist with disregulation both pro-actively and when in crisis
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize behavioral patterns and responses to stimuli.
  • Identify strategies for working with habitual responses.
  • Practice skills to attend to difficult emotions.
  • Apply at least one skill to shift habitual responses.
