ELL 001 - Integrated Reading and Writing for English Learners 1 Number of Credits: 0 Read, write, and revise academic texts, while improving English grammar and vocabulary. Prepare for future academic writing courses by focusing on paragraph development. (Fall & Spring Only) Four hours lecture each week. Zero Credits. Four billable hours.
Pre-requisite(s): Placement via the CCC English Learner Writing Placement test. Course Topics: Students in this course will complete work to develop their academic reading, writing, and grammar skills. The course is focused on developing clear sentences and paragraphs. Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Apply active reading strategies to comprehend texts.
- Craft topic sentences to provide a focus for paragraphs.
- Describe how audience and purpose affect writing.
- Organize ideas and information at the paragraph level.
- Demonstrate an emerging use of Standard American English grammar in writing.
- Identify and correct two to three persistent sentence level errors.
