ELL 001 - Integrated Reading and Writing for English Learners 1

Read, write, and revise academic texts, while improving English grammar and vocabulary. Prepare for future academic writing courses by focusing on paragraph development.   (Fall & Spring Only) Four hours lecture each week. Zero Credits. Four billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): Placement via the CCC English Learner Writing Placement test. 
Course Topics:
Students in this course will complete work to develop their academic reading, writing, and grammar skills. The course is focused on developing clear sentences and paragraphs.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
 

  1. Apply active reading strategies to comprehend texts.
  2. Craft topic sentences to provide a focus for paragraphs.
  3. Describe how audience and purpose affect writing.
  4. Organize ideas and information at the paragraph level.
  5. Demonstrate an emerging use of Standard American English grammar in writing.
  6. Identify and correct two to three persistent sentence level errors.
