DFAB 206 - SOLIDWORKS Essentials


Number of Credits: 3
Maximize the use of assembly modeling capabilities of SOLIDWORKS mechanical design automation software. Produce standalone sheet metal parts; convert conventional parts to sheet metal using various sheet metal features. This course will prepare students to take the Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional Advanced Sheet Metal (CSWPA-SM) exam. (Fall)Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.


Pre-requisite(s): DFAB 105  with a minimum grade of C or better. Can be taken concurrently with DFAB 270  with permission of Program Director. 

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate how to use advanced mate techniques. 

  1. Produce assemblies, top-down assembly models, and large assemblies. 

  1. Generate assembly features, smart features, and smart components.

  1. Use configurations within the context of assemblies.

  1. Manage display states and appearances.

  1. Employ multibody design techniques.

  1. Manipulate sheet metal features, parts, and parameters.

  1. Use flat patterns and feature properties to create manufacturable sheet metal parts.

  1. Produce sheet metal parts using various methods and techniques. 

  1. Convert geometry into sheet metal and multibody sheet metal parts.

  1. Construct forming tools.
