Improve your oral communication for everyday tasks, while you also craft essays and decode texts on personal and social topics. Explore current issues in Spanish-speaking regions as you create a language learning plan for your future. This course is taught in Spanish. Advanced Placement Exam (Spanish with a score of 4) accepted for SPAN-100, SPAN-102, and SPAN-201. CLEP (Spanish Language Level 2 with a score of 63) accepted for SPAN-100, 102, and 201.(Fall, Spring)Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): eligibility for ENGL 101.

Completion of SPAN 102 or two credits of high school Spanish recommended.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Use intermediate level structures and vocabulary to communicate about global issues.
Communicate orally with accuracy to handle uncomplicated tasks related to straightforward situations in Spanish.
Create grammatically correct questions and short essay -level responses in written and oral forms.
Respond to a range of short written texts and aural passages that convey information about personal and social topics and contexts.
Recognize and apply patterns, context clues and structural knowledge of language to predict meaning of unfamiliar words.
Consistently apply rules of register/formality according to situation and audience.
Identify current issues in locations where Spanish is spoken and the connection of these issues to the world at large.
Create a plan for continued language learning to support student’s chosen field.
Integrate knowledge of other disciplines through the study of the Spanish language and the cultures and diverse experiences of its speakers.
Locate, evaluate, use and cite research sources when completing written assignments.
