Engineering, Chemical/Biomedical Concentration, A.S.

The Associate of Science, Engineering, Chemical/Biochemical Concentration is intended for those students who plan to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program. The courses in the program are transfer oriented and form the basis of a solid foundation in the liberal arts. By using ARTSYS, at artweb.usmd.edu, or the transfer institution’s catalog, students will work with an academic advisor to create an academic plan leading to graduation and transfer.

Program Goals


Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Acquire a foundation of relevant mathematical, scientific, and fundamental engineering knowledge, including use of computer tools and applications.
  2. Apply mathematics, science, and engineering knowledge to effectively engage in the engineering design process including identification of needs, development of practical solutions, analysis, and testing.
  3. Understand the collaborative nature of engineering and be able to effectively engage in teamwork and group projects.
  4. Understand and be able to apply the professional and ethical obligations of engineers and engineering solutions to employers and society.
  5. Effectively communicate solutions to technical problems through oral and written technical presentations.

The following courses are required for this concentration; some courses fulfill General Education requirements: CHEM 105 , CHEM 106 , CHEM 201 , MATH 135 , MATH 136 , MATH 205 , PHYS 212  and nine Concentration Elective credits (according to transfer institution preferences, select from CHEM 202 , CIS 132 , ENGR 102 , and/or MATH 215 ).
