The purpose of the Associate of Science program in Engineering with a concentration in Mechanical/Civil is to prepare students to continue their studies towards a baccalaureate degree in engineering. Students acquire a solid foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering while developing their ability to think critically and solve problems.

Program Goals
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Acquire a foundation of relevant mathematical, scientific, and fundamental engineering knowledge, including use of computer tools and applications.
- Apply mathematics, science, and engineering knowledge to effectively engage in the engineering design process including identification of needs, development of practical solutions, analysis, and testing.
- Understand the collaborative nature of engineering and be able to effectively engage in teamwork and group projects.
- Understand and be able to apply the professional and ethical obligations of engineers and engineering solutions to employers and society.
- Effectively communicate solutions to technical problems through oral and written technical presentations.

*If transferring to UMCP, CHEM 134 (offered winter term only) or CHEM 106 must be completed (prerequisite CHEM 105 ).
The following courses are required for this concentration; some courses fulfill General Education requirements: CHEM 105 , ENGR 102 , ENGR 220 , MATH 135 , MATH 136 , MATH 205 , MATH 215 , PHYS 212 and eight Concentration Elective credits (according to transfer institution preferences, select from CAD 101 , CIS 132 , ENGR 221 , MATH 210 , or PHYS 213 ).
