Sports Medicine Aide, Certificate

The Sports Medicine Aide Certificate provides students with introductory knowledge and skills needed in the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of an injured athlete. The courses are part of the Exercise Science Concentration and are transferrable to a baccalaureate degree program in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Pre-Athletic Training, or Pre-Physical Therapy. Students gain knowledge and skills preferred for employment as a physical therapy technician or aide. This certificates supports the college’s mission to provide educational opportunities for transfer beyond the associate level.

Recommended Course Sequence: (Total Credits: 24)

Program Goals


Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Identify the responsibilities and scope of practice of a certified athletic trainer.
  2. Identify signs and symptoms of common athletic injures using appropriate musculoskeletal terminology.
  3. Obtain CPR/First Aid certification to assist in an emergency.
  4. Model concussion and injury management protocols used by an athletic trainer.
