Certificate Requirements

Recommended Course Sequence: (Total Credits: 36)

Program Goals

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

1. Interpret medical documents using medical terminology, human anatomy, and an understanding of disease process.
2. Utilize multiple coding classification systems applicable to inpatient and outpatient care settings.
3. Apply coding guidelines to ensure comprehensive, accurate coding.
4. Use software programs and technologies common in the workplace.
5. Utilize health data to complete common tasks, functions, or projects.
6. Identify how legal, ethical, and financial issues impact health information management.

Student Notices

All courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C.

Upon completion of the certificate students will be eligible to sit for certification examinations offered by the American Health Information Management Association.
