An Arts and Sciences Concentration in Journalism prepares students to transfer to 4-year institutions in a Communication Arts program. Journalism students observe and analyze the role of mediated communication, including journalism, in a society. Projects require students to use and develop spoken and written communication skills. The program aligns with the College’s mission to prepare students to transfer into a baccalaureate program and to enhance professional writing and speaking skills.

Degree Requirements
Recommended Course Sequence: (Total Credits: 60)
Program Goals
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Analyze the meaning of spoken, written, and visual texts to explore effective communication.
- Address communication obstacles, including but not limited to cultural differences, when interacting with and observing others.
- Use critical reading and listening skills to comprehend spoken, written, and visual texts.
- Craft messages in different genres, using various media, with a clear purpose and for a defined audience.
Student Notices
The following courses are required for this concentration; some courses fulfill General Education requirements: COMM 105 , ENGL 245 , PSLS 100 and six credits of World Language.
Diversity requirement: take ENGL 102 and an additional course.
