The Arts and Sciences Social Work Concentration at Carroll Community College provides basic knowledge of societies, social interaction, social inequality, and human behavior and a foundation for continued study in sociology and anthropology. Carroll students are expected to check with their chosen transfer institution and consult with a Carroll academic advisor along with ARTSYS at artsys.usd.edu in selecting General Education and elective courses.

Programs Goals
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of sociological and anthropological perspectives and major theories used to explain individual and group behavior.
- Perform socioloical and psychological analysis on selected conteporary social issues (e.g. racism, poverty, gobalization).
- Analyze and inerpret, orally or in writing, sociological and psychological research.
- Explain the stratified nature of globalization and the importance of intercultural difference within and between local and global communities
Student Notices
Diversity requirement: take ENGL 102 and SOC 101 .
The following courses are required for this concentration; some courses fulfill General Education requirements: MATH 115 , PSYC 101 , SOC 101 , and two of PSYC 211 , SOC 105 , SOC 110 , and/or SOC 120 .
Students who intend to transfer to McDaniel may take SW2214 for the cost of a Carroll course. Students may also consider a free course at Hood College, SOWK 201. For details about either of these special agreements, see an academic advisor in the Advising and Transfer Center.
Students may choose to complete this program in an online format. Speak with an advisor to determine if online learning is appropriate.
