The Associate of Arts degree in Computer Science prepares students for transfer to a four-year institution to continue their studies in computer science and related fields. Challenging coursework in computer science and mathematics form the basis of the program courses in this degree with an emphasis on providing solutions to complex problems using modern programming principles

Recommended Course Sequence: 60 Credits Required

Program Goals


Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to:

  1. Use mathematics and modern computer science programming principles to analyze, design, and solve complex problems.
  2. Utilize modern programming languages to demonstrate key concepts.
  3. Troubleshoot and correct errors in logical design and syntactical construction.
  4. Communicate technical information to others verbally and in writing.
  5. Function effectively on a team by establishing goals, planning tasks, assigning roles and responsibilities, and meeting objectives on an established timeline.

Student Notices


Students transferring to UMBC should take the CMSC-201/202 sequence in their first year. Students transferring to UMGC should take the CIS-132/232 sequence. All other students should consult with an advisor when deciding which sequence to take for maximum transferability.
