CAR 103 - Career and Employment Preparation


Number of Credits: 1
Create a professional portfolio and utilize effective employment research methods. Identify professional trademark, career competencies, networking, and self-marketing tools. Develop a portfolio consisting of a resume, cover letter, LinkedIn account, and resources for an initial interview. Engage with professionals and complete a mock interview.  (Spring Term Only) One hour lecture each week. One Credit. One billable hour.

Pre-requisite(s): eligibility for ENGL 101 .

Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 
  1. Identify and create components of an effective job search strategy.
  2. Research labor market trends and career clusters to incorporate in career planning.
  3. Relate personal experience and skills to career competencies.
  4. Utilize effective employment research, job search techniques, and self-marketing tools to develop an employment plan.
  5. Complete a mock interview with a professional following course guidelines.
  6. Develop a professional portfolio.
  7. Identify components of professional character. 
  8. Initiate steps to develop a personal trademark.
