SUAS 104 - sUAS Applications


Number of Credits: 3
Explain how remote pilots apply UAS technology for commercial, scientific, and governmental purposes while respecting both physical and regulatory limitations. Summarize ways that unmanned aircraft are used to accomplish a variety of tasks in complex environments. Explore professionalism and ethics for remote pilots. (Spring Term Only) Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): SUAS 103   with a minimum grade of C or better.
Course Topics:
How UAS technology is applied for commercial, scientific, and governmental purposes.

Explore ways unmanned aircraft are used to accomplish tasks in complex environments.

Professionalism and ethics.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
 

  1. Describe ethics and privacy considerations in the operation of unmanned aircraft. (PG1)
  2. Interpret aviation rules and regulations as they pertain to unmanned aircraft. (PG1, PG3)
  3. Generalize the principles of small unmanned aircraft systems aerodynamics and performance. (PG1)
  4. Produce an applicable flight plan for flying in the National Airspace System. (PG1, PG3)
  5. Produce appropriate communication phraseology with air traffic control and conflict aircraft. (PG1, PG3)
  6. Recognize attitudes and behaviors appropriate to effective commercial aviation. (PG1)
  7. Accrue a minimum of 15 hours documented flight time towards the required minimum 50 hours documented flight time. (PG2)
