ELL 002 - Integrated Reading and Writing for English Learners 2 Number of Credits: 0 Read, write, and revise academic texts, while improving English grammar and vocabulary. Prepare for English 101 and other college-level courses by focusing on essay development. (Fall & Spring Only) Four hours lecture each week. Zero Credits. Four billable hours.
Pre-requisite(s): Placement via the CCC English Learner Writing Placement test or successful completion of ELL 001 /ELL 092 Co-requisite(s): Students may co-enroll in ENGL 100 , but this is not a required co-requisite. Course Topics: Students in this course will complete work to develop their academic reading, writing, and grammar skills. The course is focused on developing clear thesis statements and five-paragraph essays using a standard North American format. Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Apply active reading strategies to comprehend texts.
- Describe how audience and purpose affect writing.
- Identify differences in writing styles between their native language and academic English.
- Develop thesis statements that provide focus for essays.
- Organize ideas and information at the paragraph and essay level.
- Use Standard American English grammar consistently in writing.
- Identify and correct two to three persistent sentence level errors.
- Recognize expert and inexpert sources of information.
- Compare ideas from multiple sources of information.
