ELL 002 - Integrated Reading and Writing for English Learners 2

The 3 credits listed are used only for Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress calculation. The course does not award academic credit (as stated in this description) therefore it is not included in academic GPA calculation and does not count toward graduation requirements.(Fall, Spring)Four hours lecture each week. Zero Credits. Four billable hours.


Pre-requisite(s): Placement via the CCC English Learner Writing Placement test or successful completion of ELL 001  /ELL 092  

Co-requisite(s): Students may co-enroll in ENGL 100  , but this is not a required co-requisite. 
Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
 

1. Apply active reading strategies to comprehend texts.
2. Describe how audience and purpose affect writing.
3. Identify differences in writing styles between their native language and academic English.
4. Develop thesis statements that provide focus for essays.
5. Organize ideas and information at the paragraph and essay level.
6. Use Standard American English grammar consistently in writing.
7. Identify and correct two to three persistent sentence level errors.
8. Recognize expert and inexpert sources of information.
9. Compare ideas from multiple sources of information.
