Accounting CPA Exam Qualification, Certificate

The CPA Exam Qualification and Licensure Preparation Certificate program prepares students who already possess a bachelor’s degree (in any field of study) with:

  1. the additional required coursework in accounting and ethics (“Group I” coursework as identified on the Maryland State Board of Public Accountancy’s website, www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/) for eligibility to sit for the CPA examination in the State of Maryland; and
  2. the additional coursework in law, economics, mathematics, marketing, management, writing and public speaking (“Group II” coursework as identified on the Maryland State Board of Public Accountancy’s website, www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/)(a combined total of 150 college level credits) in order to apply for licensure to practice as a CPA in the state of Maryland. There are practical work experience requirements for licensure which are not addressed by this program. Students must visit the Maryland State Board of Public Accountancy’s website, www.dllr.state.md.us/license/cpa/, for information on educational and practical work experience requirements as well as examination dates.

Program Goals


Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.  
  2. Prepare basic accounting documentation.  
  3. Develop a simple business and marketing plan.  
  4. Explain the process and functions of management of a business organization.  
  5. Employ fundamental software applications for everyday business tasks.
  6. Achieve the college level coursework required for eligibility to sit for the CPA examination and become licensed in the state of Maryland.
