sUAS Pilot Safety, Certificate

Prepare for an exciting career as a Commercial Drone Pilot. This certificate provides students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skill necessary to safely operate a small-unmanned aircraft system (sUAS) within the National Airspace System.

This certificate trains you as a professional Remote Pilot and delivers knowledge required for industry safety certification, in order to build the learners competency in the field of sUAS aviation Safety.

As part of this certificate, students will prepare to earn their FAA Remote Pilot in Command Certificate and the sUAS Safety Certification. The Pilot Safety certificate signifies an individual that can commercially fly unmanned aircraft systems and holds Unmanned Safety Institute’s sUAS Safety Certification.

Certification is not guaranteed. Some of the coursework may require fieldwork and flight laboratories.

Program Goals


Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate how to safely and legally fly multi-rotor and fixed wing drones in a variety of commercial sUAS missions in both simulated and actual conditions.
  2. Interpret a variety of regulations, policies and procedures.
  3. Operate sUAS systems to include aircraft platforms, control stations, hardware, software and firmware.
  4. Analyze data collected through remote sensing equipment and cameras.
  5. Determine the requirements of sUAS mission planning across a number of industry sectors.
