Music, A.F.A., Music Technology and Sound Recording Concentration

Within the Music AFA, the Music Technology & Sound Recording concentration provides hands-on training in audio engineering, production, and creative sound design. Students develop technical skills in studio recording, microphone techniques, signal flow, mixing, and Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), while also studying sound, acoustics, synthesis, MIDI, and audio effects. Collaborative projects, live event management, and peer critique strengthen critical listening, professional confidence, and practical experience. Graduates emerge prepared for continued study or careers in music technology, sound recording, performance, education, and beyond.

Program Goals


Music, A.F.A Program Goals
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Perform a stylistically varied repertoire of musical literature with expression and technical accuracy.     
  2. Critique the usage of musical elements in live and prerecorded performances that represent various styles and cultures.     
  3. Analyze musical examples using elements of music theory from multiple stylistic periods and genres.     
  4. Apply music theory by performing scales, arpeggios, chords, staff reading, and theoretical concepts on the piano.     
  5. Explain the value of music, functions of music, roles of musicians, and conditions under which music is performed in various cultures and time periods.    
  6. Demonstrate an aural understanding of music theory via dictation, sight-singing, and performance.     


Additional Program Goals - Area of Concentration in Music Technology & Sound Recording

1. Demonstrate proficient use of music industry-standard hardware and software.
2. Apply artistic and technical engineering and acoustic principles.
3. Execute studio recording sessions and live sound reinforcement events.

Student Notices


Six credits of MUSIC-000 are required for this degree.

Two credits of Music Ensembles are required for this degree.

MUSIC-202 is to be taken twice for a total of 2 credits.
