CRIM 203 - Written Communications for Police


Number of Credits: 3
Practice the preparation of written administrative and operational police reports. Simulate note taking and the accurate development of criminal investigation documents. This course is open to Law Enforcement Academy students only. (All Terms) Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): CRIM 101  and ENGL 101 .
Co-requisite(s): No change.
Pre-/Co-requisite(s): Completion of or enrollment in a certified police academy.  This course is not for general credit students.

 

Course Topics:
Motor Vehicle Accident report writing.

Writing Criminal Reports.

Writing Search Warrants

Note taking.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the role of written communications in police work.
  2. Describe events in a concise, well-organized narrative.
  3. Explain the purpose of taking notes.
  4. Develop proper note taking procedures.
  5. Evaluate research in preparation of interviewing, listening, and observing persons and activities.
  6. Identify significant factors necessary for specific investigative reports.
