CRIM 215 - Patrol Operations

Study the ever-increasing responsibilities and duties associated with preserving the peace and tranquility of an officer’s patrol area. Examine how and why certain procedures, functions, policies, supervisory directions, and personnel training issues affect the daily patrol. Explore a variety of scenarios and situations. This course is open to Law Enforcement Academy students only. (All Terms) Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): CRIM 101.
Pre-/Co-requisite(s): Completion of or enrollment in a certified police academy. This course is not for general credit students.

Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Demonstrate techniques to calm or control an emotionally distraught person.
Research the evaluation process in determining the strategy for an arrest.
Identify a police officer’s responsibilities at the scene of a dispute.
Research general rules for police involvement in property repossession.
Discuss methods of responding to crimes in progress.
Research and discuss observation and perceptions utilized in patrol.
Describe the officer’s responsibilities as a first responder to various incidents.
Identify the role of a police officer in traffic enforcement.
