HONOR 201 - Exploring Leadership


Number of Credits: 1

Examine characteristics and skills for effective leadership in a rapidly changing world. Discover leadership potential and identify areas of personal growth. This course is only for students participating in the Pappalardo Honors Program. Additional $250 fee required. (All Terms) One hour lecture each week. One Credit. One billable hour.

Course Topics:
Topics will include leadership theories and models, self-awareness, communication, group processes and behaviors, organizational leadership, diversity, ethical leadership and decision-making, and service leadership.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

This course will help students understand leadership and develop their own capacity for leadership. By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate their personal values, goals, and strengths and weaknesses as a leader.
  2. Describe characteristics of effective leadership.
  3. Identify strategies to enhance team performance, including those related to Tuckman’s group development theory.
  4. Identify strategies for effective communication and conflict resolution.
  5. Discuss the value of perspectives, opinions, and experiences that are different from their own.
