MUSIC 112 - Musicianship 1 Number of Credits: 1 Musicianship 1 is a course in the skills of reading and hearing music. Skills developed will include a mastery of pitch and rhythm through sight singing, dictation, and body movement. It is recommended that students planning to transfer to a music program at a four year college/university, concurrently enroll in MUSIC 110 and MUSIC 114 . Advanced Placement Exam (Music Aural) accepted. (Fall & Spring Only) Three hours laboratory each week. One Credit. One billable hour.
Pre-requisite(s): MUSIC 105 . Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Perform rhythms from a whole note to an eighth note and their rest equivalents (GE3, PG1, PG4)
- Sing melodies based on step wise motion (GE5, PG1, PG4)
- Sing arpeggios of the tonic, dominant and subdominant chords (GE5, PG1, PG4)
- Perform exercises that include dotted rhythms (GE3, PG1, PG4)
- Sing in the treble, bass and alto clefs (GE5, PG1, PG4)
- Sing in the major and minor modes (GE5, PG1, PG4)
- Perform in basic compound time (GE3, PG1, PG4)
- Take dictations of simple melodies and harmonies (GE1, GE2, PG1, PG4)
