DATA 101 - Introduction to Data Science


Number of Credits: 3
Collect, organize, manage, and visualize data in a spreadsheet environment. Present, analyze, and communicate data using statistical computing. Discuss ethical issues surrounding data science and their implications. (Fall & Spring Only) Three hours lecture each week. Three credits. Three billable hours.

Pre-requisite(s): Eligibility for ENGL 101  and exemption/completion of MAT 095  or MAT 099  
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Identify methods and techniques commonly used in collecting and organizing data. (PG 1)
2. Utilize spreadsheets and other computing software to manage, summarize, and visualize existing data sets. (PG 2, PG 3)
3. Describe the use of data science in various fields of study. (PG 5)
4. Discuss ethical issues and their implications surrounding data science. (PG 5)
5. Use a data science case study to develop and communicate conclusions. (PG 4)
