CHEM 105 - Principles of General Chemistry 1

Number of Credits: 4
Examine the properties of matter and the structure of atoms, molecules, and ions. Perform calculations involving chemical reactions, solutions, thermochemistry, and gases.  Describe the electronic structure of the atom and show how it leads to periodic properties, chemical bonding, and molecular geometry.  Advanced Placement Exam (Chemistry with score of 4 or 5) accepted.  (Fall, Spring & Summer Only) Three hours lecture each week. Three hours laboratory each week. Four Credits. Four billable hours.

GENERAL EDUCATION. Category: Biological and Physical Sciences

Pre-requisite(s): MAT 099   or MATH 118   with minimum grades of C or better, plus eligibility for ENGL 101 .
Course Topics:
Measurement, Atomic Structure, Chemical Nomenclature, Stoichiometry, Chemical Reactions, Thermochemistry, Electronic Structure, Periodic Trends, Molecular Structure and Bonding, Gas Laws.
Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
