The Associate of Arts degree program in Business Administration, Accounting Concentration, prepares students to transfer to a four-year institution to continue their studies in accounting or similar business major. Challenging coursework with a focus on writing and critical thinking skills provides a solid basis for students to become engaged citizens and thoughtful leaders in their chosen careers.

Associate of Arts, Business Administration, Accounting Concentration, Degree
Recommended Course Sequence: 60 Credits Required

Program Goals


Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  2. Employ fundamental software applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, for everyday business tasks.
  3. Explain the process and functions of management of a business organization.
  4. Use accounting models to define, represent, and solve mathematical problems.
  5. Analyze financial transactions to determine their impact to the business organization.
  6. Prepare basic financial statements and other accounting documentation.
  7. Perform entry-level accounting work, including bookkeeping, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.

Student Notices


The following courses are required for this concentration; some courses fulfill General Education requirements: ACCT 101 , ACCT 102 , ACCT 201 , ACCT 202 , BUAD 205 , CIS 101 , COMM 105 , ECON 100 , ECON 102 , and MGMT 201 .

Diversity requirement: take ENGL 102  and an additional Diversity General Education  course. 

An Associate of Arts degree requires a minimum of 12 credits of 200-level courses.

Business majors with a 3.200 GPA may be eligible for membership in the business honor society, Alpha Beta Gamma.
