The purpose of the Public Health Concentration is to prepare students to continue their studies at the baccalaureate level. Through practical, preventive health-focused courses, students develop their knowledge of the human body and skills to help people improve health and lower morbidity and mortality. The program supports the college’s mission by providing high-quality educational opportunities to prepare students for transfer to a four-year institution’s Community Health or Public Health major.

Program Goals


Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Apply health assessment methods.
  2. Examine cultural differences that influence health.
  3. Critique scholarly health science research.
  4. Interpret an individual’s readiness to change health behaviors.

Student Notices


The following courses are required for this concentration; some courses fulfill General Education requirements: BIOL 101 , BIOL 210 , BIOL 211 , HLTH 101 , HLTH 150 , and HLTH 201 .

Credit may be granted for a current industry-recognized certification. Send credentials to the Records office.

Diversity requirement: take ENGL 102  and HLTH 201 .

An Associate of Arts degree requires a minimum of 12 credits of 200-level courses.
