CGR 250 - Publication Design on Computers Number of Credits: 3 Publication Design on Computers builds student skills in developing aesthetic and technically refined desktop publishing materials. A workshop atmosphere allows students to learn several electronic layout techniques and develop various publication examples. Students may use several computer peripherals and many advanced system enhancements to create communication designs. Several advanced software packages are also available for use in preparing work. Emphasis is placed on composition, preparing artwork, inputting copy, and assembling documents. (Spring Term Only) Three hours lecture each week. Three Credits. Three billable hours.
Pre-requisite(s): exemption/completion of ENG 001 , CGR 105 and CGR 110 . Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Create and design publications using industry standard software. (PG1)
- Use grids, styles, and templates in publication design. (PG1)
- Create aesthetically appropriate artifacts for their design portfolio. (PG4)
- Perform research on contemporary graphic design. (PG2)
- Convert abstract concepts into original design solutions. (PG1)
- Assess artifacts created by others. (PG3)
- Apply the basics of graphic design theory. (PG2)
- Demonstrate an understanding of the offset printing process. (PG1)
